What Would Your Comeback Story Look Like?

After catching the most recent Formula 1 race at Barcelona (June 14), we’ve got the opportunity to witness one of the most legendary Grand Prix comeback stories ever. As a Formula 1 fan ourselves, and a Lewis Hamilton fan, we’ve been following his journey for many years. Even we have to admit that we were a little surprised by his decision to move to the Ferrari garage in 2025. On top of that, his first year at Ferrari was a genuinely bad one. But that stuck with us though, was how he handled his journey, and the fact that because he stayed on and persevered, it led to one of the most legendary wins in Formula 1 history. And his recent comeback success story has become an inspiration for our own comeback story as well.

Staying True to Ourselves Until We Make It

When we reflected on Lewis’s comeback journey, one thing kept jumping out at us, and that is, he did not just own his decisions to move to Ferrari, he also embraced being totally honest about his own struggles during his first year there. He experienced doubts, and at times, he felt like he had lost all hope. 2025 was a very bad year in racing for Lewis.

Instead of giving up, or pretending otherwise, he owned the truth about what he was going through. He spoke about it openly and then he kept on going.

Knowing his journey also reminded us that what we are doing today, and how we are doing it matters.

While many people might’ve chosen to “fake it until they make it,” we have chosen to do the exact opposite. We chose to remain true to who we are, even though we know that it would only make things harder for ourselves.

We didn’t want to lie to other people, and we refused to compromise ourselves along the way too. Last thing we want is to spend all that time “faking it”, and pretending to be somebody that we’re not.

Trusting Our Instincts, Even When There’s Doubts

One of the things that also spoke to us about Lewis’s comeback story was the fact that even he had experienced doubts during his first year in Ferrari. It is important to keep in mind that even though he had doubts, his doubts were never about his abilities, but rather, it was about wondering if he had made the right decision to leave Mercedes at the height of his career.

Truth is, many commented on whether or not his decision to leave was the right one. It was, in a sense, a risky move. He is 41 this year, and by sporting standards, one might even argue that he is getting closer and closer towards his own retirement age.

Watching his journey reminded us that it’s okay for us to experience doubts too. Over the past couple of months, we have definitely wondered if we’ve made the right decision in several different things. For us, this wasn’t just about our career decision, but it had a lot to do with our choices when it comes to standing up for our own integrity, and our decision to stick with our own Lighthouse OS when everybody else seems to be operating on a different operating system.

In fact, looking back on our journey so far, we’re glad to say that we also didn’t have any doubts about our own abilities. Not anymore.

Don’t be Afraid of the Risks

When you think about the journey that Lewis Hamilton has taken before he experienced his most recent victory, you have to admit that his decision to move to Mercedes was a risky one. He was already doing really well before the move. A seven-time World Champion. He could’ve remained comfortable, stay where he was and just ride into the sunset of his retirement.

But he didn’t do that. He took the risk and it paid off in the most spectacular way possible.

We remembered that moment in the race when everybody knew he was doing his final lap, and everybody in the crowd (even those that had not showed up to support him), was on their feet cheering him on.

That one of those sporting moments that gives you the goosebumps.

Watching his legendary victory reminded us that the risks that we’ve taken in recent years and months was the right one. Even if it felt like we could’ve played it safe along the way. Watching Lewis’s final lap of the race reminded us that if we had played it safe, we would’ve never discovered what we’re really capable of accomplishing.

We are Still Writing Our Comeback Story

For this past week, Lewis Hamilton’s legendary comeback story served as a reminder for us that, yes, the middle can sometimes be ugly and messy. Just like his first year at Ferrari was. And it’s okay. While some might try to hide it, or avoid talking about the ugly stuff, we should own it, the same way we would own the decisions and the risks that we are taking. His story also reminds us that it’s okay to have doubts some times. What matters is where we choose to place our doubts. Finally, remember, as risky as your choices might seem, at least you tried. It’s better to have tried and find out what you’re capable of, than to stay safe and spend the rest of your life wondering “if only…”
