Living a Minimalistic Life. #shorts

I am thankful that I have the money to pay for lunch today. It’s something that I’ll never ever take for granted again. These days, having food to eat is what I consider a blessing in itself. As someone that has been through the experience of not having money to eat at one point, I know what it feels like, and that is something I will never ever forget.

In recent months, there is something that seems to be slipping away from my mind. I mean, I didn’t have to always think of it front-center, cus’ I’m actually living it by this point, but I think it is still good to occasionally remind myself of why I have chosen to lead this “minimalist” lifestyle.

You think I don’t miss sipping a nice cup of Vanilla Latte at Starbucks? Or perhaps dining at one of those sushi joints that promote S$1.99 sushi per plate. I mean, they all sound really nice and tempting, but I also am aware that a plate of S$5.90 mixed economic rice meal can be good enough. I remember a time not that long ago when spending less felt more like “I didn’t have a choice cus’ I’m broke”, and today, it has become a choice. It’s my way of life. Today, I don’t need much to be happy/content. Just yesterday, my mother and I traveled to a coffeeshop in Choa Chu Kang and we enjoyed a nice meal of “Ngoh Hiang (Lor Bak)”, and it was S$19.00. My mother has been craving for it since having some gastric issues this past weekend, so I decided to treat her to it as a Mother’s Day treat. I’m glad it made her smile.

When it comes to spending time with my mother, usually, with either of my siblings, they would often choose to eat somewhere nicer, with A/C. For me, it’s usually the more simpler places. Anyway, I guess for me, this is a season to get back to the basics again. To kind of remind myself of what it means to lead this minimalistic lifestyle.

What do you think of a minimalistic lifestyle? Is it something that you also live by? Is it something you’re thinking of adopting in your life? Or is this not for you? Hey, it’s okay if it’s not for you. I figured some people just can’t stand living this way. And I totally respect that.
