So yesterday, I decided to put up an update on my LinkedIn feed, as a way to reach out to all those within my network, and to ask them for help. With a much larger network of connections on my LinkedIn profile (compared to when I first started using the site in 2014), I realized that I could leverage that and see what might come of it.
One of those connections was this guy I connected with when I first bought this custom PC from Dreamcore. He was working for them at that time. And he was the one who also attended to me. Now that he has left the company and moved into recruitment, he decided to reach out to me to see if he could help.
We had our first call today. And I was totally honest and blunt with him about my personal experiences and disappointment with the recruitment industry (as a whole), and how so many recruiters have treated potential hires (like myself).
It’s not news by now, but it’s worth mentioning that for many years, the recruitment industry hasn’t evolved, or changed. Even though we are becoming a more skill-based, innovative industry, the industry is still set in it’s old ways of assessing potential candidates (i.e. just looking at the paper qualifications and what’s on your resume). There’s so little recruiters that actually bother to invest the time to get to know their candidates, and understand their passions, motivations, and perhaps even aspirations.
I told him the honest truth that in my entire career working in tech previously, I’ve ever only encountered 1-2 individuals that truly helped me in my job hunting process. All the others care more about their bottom lines (and perhaps commissions). I know through acquaintances who have worked in the same industry that the recruiting industry works on commission.
In our conversations, I told him honestly that while I may have an ideal vision of what my dream career would look like, all I really care about at this point in time, is landing a stable job with a stable income. That’s really all I care about at this point in time. Because the reality is, we can’t live our lives and make plans based upon what can be when it happens. The real decisions that we need to make every day require that we act in the now [in the present moment]. And right now, my situation is saying that I need a job (even if the salary is much lower than what is ideal).
“Being practical and grounded right now is actually much more important than being idealistic.”
I told him the very same thing I’m sharing with you now – I can always secure a permanent job first. Once my financial situation is stable, I can then focus on looking for that ideal/perfect career. I know it’s a possibility (thanks to a recent close call), but it’s just not a certainty yet. I really hope he understands what I mean by that. Being practical and grounded right now is actually much more important than being idealistic.
I’ve sent him my updated Resume and CV, and now, it’s a bit of waiting plus continue sending out job applications on a daily basis.
My form of destressing – Ghost Recon Breakpoint
For anyone that has followed me on my journey would know that I love PC gaming. I grew up in the PC gaming era in the 80s and 90s. And I love playing RPG, open-world typed games. I love the immersive experience because it acts as a form of escapism from the otherwise stressful world. Ever since the pandemic started (thanks to a stable job at that time), I was able to get quite a lot of games (that is until a few months ago).
One of those games that I managed to pick up along the way is Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

For the past two years, I’ve been doing lots of catching on games I had missed in the years prior. You see, when I first started to follow my passions, it was also the same time I had to give up on a lot of personal desires and entertainment – PC gaming being one of those enjoyments.
After many years of struggling on my journey, I was able to finally experience a little bit of breakthrough. And with that, I was finally able to return to PC gaming again. There was a limit to what I could experience (due to the hardware performance limitations), but gradually, I found myself being able to own a PC for the first time in 8 years.
And so…I wanted to find ways to make the most of what I’ve been blessed with. The last thing I will allow to happen is to let what I have go to waste. So you can almost certainly bet I will squeeze every bit of damn juice out of this machine (before I upgrade it in the near future [provided I have the means ofcourse]).
So yeah, I’m currently really into GRB and will spend my evenings and nights with it. The game’s environmental design is just amazing!
Spending more time on Pop! OS
There’s also something else. Moving forward, it’s highly likely that I’ll be spending a majority of my time on using the Pop! OS that is currently set up on my PC. I’ve been using Pop! OS for about 9 months now. And I love it!

For those of you that might not be aware, I am a converted macOS lover. It started in 2014 and it has never stopped. The only issue is that my last MacBook Pro died on me in late 2018. Without any money to get a replacement at that time, I haven’t owned a MacBook Pro since. But it’s always on my mind. I am longing for the day when I can get my hands on a MacBook Pro again.
In fact, I intend on investing in a fully spec-ed out version of the MacBook Pro 16″. It is on my wishlist of things I really want to own someday.
For now though, Pop! OS will have to do. In fact, even after I have a MacBook Pro someday, I will still continue to support using Pop! OS in a VM form on the MacBook Pro that I own.
The other reason why I’ll be spending more time in Pop! OS is also because of the technical book that I’ll be working on for the next 18 months or so. For the purposes of the book, I want to do all of my screen captures and recordings in Pop! OS. It is going to be so interesting!

Oh yeah, I am dream-building already. I really believe in the power of visualization (Law of Attraction). This is something that I’ve been practicing (more like testing waters) for the last couple of years. I first learned about the Law of Attraction back in 2011 (I can’t really recall the exact moment). But I didn’t really start to entertain its possibilities until 2014. And since then, there’s been a few significant instances where the Law of Attraction really demonstrated just how powerful it is.
So, now that I really know it works, I’m going to do my best to practice it and make it a part of my daily lifestyle (as much as I possibly can). One of those things I will be visualizing a lot about is to be able to own one of the models of custom workstation from system76. I may not be able to know precisely when these visions will come to pass, but I know that in time, it will (either through brand collaboration, or being able to afford one myself). Either way, I know that when I want something, I’ll eventually have it.
Alright, I’m going to end here. Gonna take a nice hot shower, grab my dinner and then log into GRB! I might actually sleep early tonight. I haven’t been sleeping well for the last few nights. So it’s making me kinda tired today.
