Earlier tonight, I’ve finally managed to complete the development work on my freelance project. This is my first one ever since I’ve made the decision to return to the industry. And honestly, I really wanted to make an impression. I wanted to ensure that by doing my work really well, it would help to secure the trust that my freelance client already has in me (as a former part-time employer). In doing that, it would also secure my reputation/credibility. Ultimately, what I really needed was to ensure that I will be able to continue receiving more work from the client after finishing this one.

Sorry, I can’t share the video file, either by embedding or otherwise, so I made a Google Drive link that I can share. It is a 17 min demo video of the Satori UI PageBuilder v1.0. I named it Satori UI because in Japanese, it also means “enlightened”, or “being enlighten”, and it can also means “understanding”. All words that truly resonated with everything that I’ve experienced and been through for the past two decades of my career. For my first portfolio (which I’ve lost years ago), I had also curated and crafted my own set of custom UI controls. It’s usually because some project has a requirement and there is no standard UI components that could support that need, so I decided to build one from scratch. And with this project, I already managed to create a small collection controls. I named that first collection, “Blaze UI”.

Back then, I used to believe that speed, performance is a good thing. And yes, sometimes, having better performance can be a good thing. But as I got older, hopefully wiser too; I’ve come to learn that speed isn’t always the most important thing. When it comes to creating/crafting great UX, sometimes creating a smooth experience is more than good enough. It’s the flow. It is about giving the user that sense that they are flowing with the UI instead of the UI constantly working against them. That is what “Satori UI” means to me.

Well, it’s getting late, so I should sleep soon. But I do want to say one more thing before I go. I am really glad that I resisted those urges and temptations to rush my work. There were many days where I felt really tempted to just speed things up and try to get to the finish line a bit faster. Lord knows I could’ve used the funds sooner rather than later. Same time, I am grateful that by the grace of God, I was given the time & space that I needed. So that I can create something really good. Something I can be proud of.
