Something that I came across online this week also helped me to understand myself better. For people that are on the ADHD spectrum, staying focused for long periods of time almost never happens. I mean, 99% of the time, our focus can be quite limited (depending on where you are on the spectrum). While we can experience the occasional hyperfocus, it’s not always reliable. If we are not careful, that hyperfocus can be a bad thing if we’re focused on the wrong things. So, excluding those times when I would experience hyperfocus, on a standard day, the longest I can stay intensely focused on a task is about 4 hours a day. Max, 6 hours. Perhaps that’s also the reason why I’m always subconsciously assigning only one main focus per day. Setting more than one key focus per day more often than not would fail. I will take break now and hope I can find some more energy and focus later in the evening to work on something else.
